About Something Special Boutique

Something Special opened its doors in 1990 by myself (Margaret). I now have my 2 lovely daughters working alongside me – Paula & Vikki. All those years ago I wanted a special and memorable place and I have carried this through to today.

Back then I made most of my wedding and bridesmaid gowns by hand but over the years this has now been over taken with our amazing designers.

We love our jobs and we have a down to earth, honest but practical outlook to guide and help you in making such an important choice! We are highly skilled and have a passion to help you find your perfect gown!

All our alterations are done in house by me, which makes this easier for you and keeps the cost down. We have built an amazing customer base where we have seen generations of family members. You become part of our family from the moment you walk in. It’s such a special time in your life we make you our priority!

I have built up our range of designers over the years with some being with me since the beginning! Working very closely with them we ensure that we have the best gowns that are amazing and that little bit more different giving you the choice of classic and modern styles.

We specialize in Wedding, Bridesmaids, Flower girls, Prom & Evening wear.

FAQ

Our most frequently asked questions... and answers!

We recommend you start looking for your gown 12 months prior to your wedding date. This ensures you are trying gowns that will be current for your wedding date.

Our gowns start from £735 and go up to £1450. If this is more than you are looking to spend we do hold sample sales during the year where you can pick one of our designer samples at a fraction of their full price.

Please sign up to our newsletter to be kept informed of these dates.

We also have a full rail of sale gowns these start at £250 for wedding and £80 for bridesmaid/evening & prom.

Our sample gowns are between 10 and 22. We try and cater for all shapes and sizes as every bride is special that walks in.

]It is always advisable to wear a nude colored strapless bra for your appointment. It helps you to visualize necklines without your bra straps getting in the way. If you have a favourite (comfy!) pair of shoes, please feel free to bring them. But we do have stand for you to see the finished length of the gowns.

As woman ourselves, we understand that you want to feel perfect for trying the gown of your dreams. However, we respectfully ask you not to wear ANY fake tan as it comes off onto our gowns and does not come out.

For the same reasons, we ask you to keep your makeup light and to refrain from wearing lipstick.

You may be liable for dry cleaning charges should any transfer or fake tan occur.

Our small but perfectly formed boutique has 1 fitting suite ensuring you have a completely private experience. We can seat up to 3 guests in the appointment room.

As mums we know only too well how treasured children are…but we also know how lovely it is to have a little bit of ‘me’ time! Ivory fabrics, sharp pins and big decisions never really sit well with children, so we ask you, where possible, to refrain from bringing children between the ages of 1 and 10. Small babies are more than welcome, and we’d be delighted to warm bottles, dispose of dirty nappies in exchange for a small cuddle!

You will be given a 1 hour 30-minute, private appointment where you will be able to try on our collection accompanied by one of our experienced stylists.

At Something Special we will take you through our entire collection and discuss your ideas and together, you will make your selection of gowns to try, this is where all the fun begins.

You’ll know the right gown when you put it on. It’s an age old saying but after 27 years in the bridal industry I can confirm its completely true! Your gown is one of the foundations to your big day. Once it has been ordered you can start to build your wedding around it. We require 6-8 months to process, order and complete your alterations.
If your timescale is a little tighter, please call our boutique and speak to us and we will be more than happy to advise you and help where possible – We have once had a bridal emergency with a bride with no dress she walked in and out of our store within 2 hours. She picked a gown and we altered there and then she left on her wedding day in her wedding gown and was only 1 hour late! (crisis avoided!)

All our gowns require measurements to be taken to ascertain a standard size to order for you. Our gowns will require alterations as none of them are made to your exact measurements.

A 50% deposit is required to order all new designer gowns and accessories. The balance will be due 14 days after arriving. Sale gowns and accessories are to be paid for in full.

We are truly blessed to have Margaret who is a fantastic seamstress with a life time of experience who is based in our boutique she will carry out all fitting appointments.
Your alterations are a separate charge; all the details of which will be provided at your appointment.
You are under no obligation to use our recommended seamstress service and are free to have your gown altered elsewhere.

If you chose to use our services, you will have your first consultation 12 weeks prior to your wedding date. This will give you the chance to discuss your requirements and allow Margaret to give you an idea of timescale to complete your alterations. All gowns are completed 2 weeks prior to your wedding date.

Ideally, we would recommend that you’ve reached your goal weight by the time you have your first meeting (12weeks prior to your wedding). However, if you are still losing weight after this time, if you can advise us of this we can discuss this and decide on a timescale that we are both happy with. Please note, if you change shape once your alteration process has begun you may be charged again should your gown require further alteration.

We recommend that you collect your gown a week in advance of your wedding date. This ensures you have plenty of time to check your gown over and you leave yourself time to complete your last-minute wedding preparations without worrying about collecting your gown.
